What’s New at the Marine Corps Exchange at MCRD San Diego Spring 2010

Major changes to the layout of the main store are underway. We are re-focusing on Marines and their families. As a result, we have re-located the handbag department to the back of the store, and moved the Young Men’s Department to the front of the store. The rest of the Men’s Department and the USMC Logo merchandise that has been in the USMC Store will all be located on the first floor of the Main Store. In the process of making these changes, we are also putting new carpeting into the stores.

Upstairs, the Main Store will now house the Ladies Department, Juniors, Intimates, Sleepwear, Activewear and our new Children’s Department. MCRD discontinued offering children’s clothing and children’s shoes several years ago. We listened to our customers and realized this was a mistake. It is now back in the store. We have also added a very small section of baby supplies in the Marketplace.

Across the mall in the former Food Court space, we are busily renovating that space to become a new Home Store. This store will house Small Electric appliances, Cookware, Housewares, Bath and Bedding, a Martha Stewart shop, Gourmet Food and a few other categories. We are hoping to open this store in the May/June timeframe, depending on the construction process. Opening this store will make it more convenient for customers to experience “one stop” shopping when they visit the Main Store.

Upstairs, the Electronics Department will stay where it is, but we will be adding Major Appliances, Luggage, Vacuum cleaners, Home Storage, Mattresses. Giftware and Hallmark will stay where they are for now.

The current USMC logo store will become a new Outdoor/Garden store with a selection of Garden supplies, patio furniture, barbecues, toys, automotive supplies, and a few other categories.

Our new Uniform/Tactical/ Cash Sales store above the Cellar continues to do extremely well. We recently expanded the hours of this store to open from 0700 to 1900 Mondays through Fridays to provide better access to our active duty customers. The store is also open on the weekends on Saturdays from 0900 to 1800 and Sundays from 1000 to 1700.

The MCRD Marine Mart (Marketplace) also recently expanded its hours. This location is currently open from 0600 to 2200 daily. The only exceptions are certain Monday holidays.

Please visit and shop in our stores. We hope you like what you see. We are making these changes to improve our service to you. The new X is coming. We are not your father’s exchange.
